How the Two Brake Systems Differ

With a drum brake system, the fluid forces a brake shoe to fasten to a brake drum and create the friction that slows your wheels. With a disc brake system, the fluid causes brake calipers to clamp brake pads onto brake rotors and generate that resistance.

Eventually, however, your brakes will begin to wear out. Since that risks your safety, as well as that of others on the road, you'll want to conduct a thorough inspection to determine which part is at fault.
